It is my ultimate honor to serve as mayor of one of the most extraordinary cities in America. If you’ve never visited Murfreesboro, or it’s been more than a couple of years since you were here, you’ll be delighted to discover why we have become one of the top 10 fastest growing cities in America. Located in the southeast quadrant of the Nashville MSA and the geographic center of the state, Murfreesboro is a vibrant, creative college town where Main Street meets Metropolis.

Our picturesque downtown and city square complement new-urbanist class-A developments in the Gateway Business District.

Middle Tennessee State University serves 22,000 students, produces 5,000 graduates each year, and is the No. 1 provider of graduates for the Greater Nashville economy.

Locally owned shops, restaurants, and music festivals blend with upscale shopping and entertainment districts.

The region’s most advanced healthcare facilities and an extensive network of family practitioners and specialists provide outstanding healthcare to the city’s 130,000+ residents.

Interstates I-24 and I-840 are in the city limits and Nashville International Airport is just 30 minutes away.

Ranked as Tennessee’s most affordable city, residents enjoy good schools and jobs coupled with a low cost of living and high quality of life.

Stellar educational systems support a full range of opportunities for K-12 and university students.

Hometown sports leagues play in the most advanced facilities for every sport and age group.

The peaceful greenspace of our rural history is preserved amidst rapid growth.

And strong churches and faith organizations continue to grow as they welcome new residents of our city.

As our transformation has occurred, a growing number of business leaders have recognized the hidden gem of Murfreesboro and chosen to build their companies here. And more are on the way. Whether you are a lifelong resident or one of the thousands of new Murfrees- boroans that arrive every year, you’re in on the “secret” of our growth. Word is getting out, so hang on – our best days are still ahead!

Cordially,

Shane McFarland

Greetings!
Rutherford County is one of the fastest growing counties that make up the Nashville MSA.  And, at its heart, the city of Murfreesboro has become one of the fastest growing cities in the US.

Home to Middle Tennessee State University, a thriving business community, and amenities that cater to families and young professionals, we’ve developed a culture much different from our sister counties to the north and west.

We have an abundance of parks and recreational opportunities as well as shopping districts, hundreds of restaurants, and the music that permeates the entire region. The only reason to leave the county would be to make the 20-minute drive from the county line to Nashville International Airport.   Residents live, work, shop, play and enjoy the best of all worlds here in Rutherford County.

There are, however, a few things that we don’t have.

We lack the traffic gridlock of the city. Due to good planning and traffic management, you can get anywhere you need to go.

We haven’t experienced the high costs of living that come with big city success. Housing options are plentiful in all price ranges and a salary goes much further in Rutherford County.

Executives don’t face an excessive drive time to the most exclusive homes in the region.

We’ve also avoided the bureaucratic red tape that companies often encounter when relocating to a bustling new locale. At county and city levels, we remain nimble and strongly pro-business, helping companies bring their projects online faster and at a lower cost.

And thanks to the 5,000 graduates from MTSU each year, along with Motlow Community College and Tennessee College of Applied Technology, we don’t have the shortage of skilled workers that plagues downtown Nashville.  In fact, the latest count shows that we have 55,000 residents driving from Rutherford County to Nashville or Franklin for work and that over 99% of them would jump at the chance to accept comparable work here at home.

If you are looking at the Nashville region for a Class A office, industrial, or logistics relocation, contact me personally. I will be excited to answer your questions and set up a personal tour of the “best-kept secret in Tennessee.”
